Every FBS result feeds the same equation, recomputed from scratch each week. Nothing carries over from the week before.

SDR compares every FBS team by averaging the score of each game played this season. The more games that have been played, the better the data.

Using SDR, teams are sorted into quadrants. Q1 is anyone within reach of the best team in the country, Q2 is the next tier down, and Q3 covers the rest of the top 68.

Teams earn points for wins against strong quadrants, without being punished too heavily for a loss to a good team.
